Social & Personal Magazine - November 2006 Issue

Dear Katie,
I'm 23 years old and over the past few months a few of my close friends have being doing drugs almost every weekend. I'm very anti-drugs and I worry every time my friends do them.
Noelle, Galway.

Dear Noelle,
You should tell your friends how you're feeling. But at the end of the day, it is their choice. All you can do is be honest about how you feel. The fact that you don't take drugs should not affect your friendship. In the long run they will probably respect you more for standing up for what your believe in.

Dear Katie,
Last weekend I went to a party and had a few too many drinks and ended up having unprotected sex with a guy I had only just met. I am too embarrassed to tell anyone and I'm also worried that I might have contracted something?
Lizanne, Sligo.

Dear Lizanne,
The rate of STD's in this country is getting higher and higher all the time. The first thing you should do is go and see your doctor. The sooner you do this the better, as early diagnosis can make treatment a lot easier. You should also confide in one of your friends. Tell them what happened. It's always good to talk.

Dear Katie,
I'm a 26 year old guy and I've been dating this incredible girl for almost a year now. I'm crazy about her and would love to spend the rest of my life with her, but I just don't feel I'm good enough for her. She's from a very wealthy family and I'm not.
Jeremy, Clontarf, Dublin.

Dear Jeremy
Your girlfriend appears to want to be with you and that's all you should be focused on, not how much money she has. You're a lucky man to be with someone who cares about you like that and think carefully before you let it go. But if you think this is something you will always dwell on then act on it now. It's never too late to be everything you want to be. You can always improve your own personal standards by going back to college, completing a night course and achieving all your personal goals. We only have one shot at this life, so make the most of it.
